(Q). What is Scrip? (A). Scrip is “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you buy negotiable gift certificates and prepaid gift cards that are used like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday items, such as food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every scrip purchase, SJS earns revenue--from two to fifteen percent—of the face value of the scrip. Many of our parents have had questions regarding this program. If, after reading the document, you still have questions, please call or email (StJamesHSACMG@aol.com) Colleen Gallagher. (Q). May I continue to purchase grocery store gift cards (e.g., ShopRite, Kings, A&P and Stop and Shop)? (A). Yes. These grocery stores are included on the participating retailers’ list. (Q). How do I pay for scrip? (A). The preferred method of payment is cash, check or debit card. All checks should be made payable to SJS HSA. If you would like to pay by debit card, please contact Colleen Gallagher, HSA President. That being said, as a convenience to our families, we will accept credit cards for purchases. However, please bear in mind that the use of credit cards will reduce SJS’ earnings. Further, if the scrip discount is 2% or less, we will loose revenue. We ask that you pay close attention to the scrip discounts if you plan to pay be credit card. (Q) How do I place an order? (A). You can order scrip either online or by completing the Dollars & Cents “Plus” Order Form. All orders are processed once per week on Tuesdays. Tuesday’s orders are usually in by Friday. To place an order online, go to www.shopwithscrip.com and follow the web site’s instructions. A complete retailer listing is on the web site. SJS HSA’s enrollment code is 2769LEA414777. Using the website is convenient, secure, and accurate, and families can see their purchase history and order status. After selecting your scrip and placing the website order, print a copy of the Order Confirmation Form, enclose it with cash or check in an envelope, and send it to the HSA mailbox, marked Dollars & Cents “Plus” Order. If you prefer to pay by credit card, please indicate on the top of your Order Confirmation Form whether you are paying by MasterCard, Visa or Discover. Include your card’s account number and credit card’s expiration date. Please be sure to identify on your online Order Confirmation Form the name of the child/classroom you would like your scrip sent home with. To place a paper order, complete the Dollars & Cents “Plus” Order Form and send it with your payment (as noted above) to the HSA mailbox, marked Dollars & Cents “Plus” Order. Order forms are located near the bulletin board located in the school’s entranceway. Please review your order for accuracy! (Q). Do you get certificates that anyone can use? (A). Yes. The gift certificates/cards that you purchase are exactly the same as if you purchased them at the retailer. Most are cards. Some are paper certificates. (Q). Do they come with a gift envelope? (A). No, they do not come with a gift envelope. However, there are various styles you may purchase. The cost is $5.60 for 16 wrappers with a 20% rebate. (Q). Can the gift cards/certificates be used to purchase items on-line? (A). It depends on the individual retailer. Specific information can be found in the “Retailers” section on the shopwithscrip.com web site. (Q). Do the gift cards/certificates expire? (A). 99% do not have an expiration date. However, after 12/24 months of inactivity, some cards start to deduct a service fee. Each retailer is different. Please read the back of the gift card/certificate for details. (Q). Do the gift cards/certificates come in large denominations? (A). It depends on the individual retailer. If you are looking for something specific, please call/email me and I will check with the company. (Q). Will you stock certain gift cards/certificates? (A). As this is a pilot program, we will begin to stock certain gift cards/certificates only after we determine how often families use the program and what retailers are ordered the most. Look for information in January. (Q). How often is the retailer list updated? (A). Often. Families should review the “What’s New” section of the shopwithscrip.com website weekly. New retailers are added and “special incentives” on purchasing certain retailers’ gift cards can be added daily. Occasionally, the HSA will notify you about certain changes/additions to the program. This will be done primarily via email. (Q). How long does it take for gift cards/certificates to come in? (A). Currently, orders will be placed on Tuesday. All orders must have payment to be processed. Tuesday’s orders are usually in by Friday. While backorders are rare, they do occur. (Q). How will I receive my scrip order? (A). All scrip orders will be sent via backpack to the child named on your online Order Confirmation Form or on the Dollars & Cents “Plus” order form. Please check your child’s backpack on the Friday of the week you placed an order. (Q). Can other family members/friends purchase gift cards/certificates? (A). Absolutely! We encourage it. This is a national retail program. Just make sure to use your school family name so I know where to send the scrip. (Q). I have lost my scrip. Is it replaceable? (A). No.
