Miss Shupp's fourth grade class wrote Christmas cards for Sister Rosalie and Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco in Haledon, NJ. They received replies from the Sisters along with prayer books and Blessed Mother medals. The students will continue their pen pal experience as the year proceeds."

Grade Two
The second graders visited the Bronx Zoo this past Wednesday, Jan. 25.  No traffic or tolls for us!  We just walked down the hall to the Media Center.  There, we enjoyed a live video conference with a zookeeper. We saw live animals, learned facts about the size and shape of wild animals, and had fun!

New Jersey Catholic Conference

Action Alert

ISSUE:           The Nonpublic School Technology Initiative was first removed from the Budget by Governor Corzine and has remained out of the Budget for the last two budget cycles. The goal is to have this program restored in Governor Christie's Education Budget for FY '13.

OUR

POSITION:   The New Jersey Catholic Conference and the New Jersey Network of Catholic School Families has continued to support the restoration of the Nonpublic School Technology Initiative in the annual New Jersey State Budget.

ACTION:       Please email Governor Chris Christie to ask that he include the Nonpublic School Technology Initiative in his FY '13 Budget. This would be an excellent civics lesson for students to provide an email to Governor Christie and respectfully ask for this restoration. This is a time-sensitive request because Governor Christie's Budget will be issued in mid-February.

To email Governor Christie, you must use his webform:

Thank you for your immediate cooperation.

St. James Middle School Youth Ministry

Dear Parents,

Whether your child attended the first Middle School Youth Ministry gathering and Teen Mass or if they missed it, I wanted to give you a glimpse of what they were up to.

In spite of the conflicting Giants game, we had a great turn out with 26 youth attending.  After pizza and a fun icebreaker, "2 Of A Kind", (ask you child if they were "Salt & Pepper" or  "Batman & Robin" etc., and they will fill you in), we viewed a 60 Minute's clip on Homeless Veterans and the problems they face.  The youth then wrote heartfelt prayers asking for the Lord's many blessings for these men and women to find housing, jobs, courage and hope.  These prayers were then assembled into a prayer chain and brought up with the gifts and placed on the alter during the Teen Mass.

We concluded with the MSYM hosting the Teen Mass by being greeters, readers, ushers and gift bearers.  A job well done by all involved!

Our next MSYM gathering will be held on Friday, February 10th from 7:00-8:30pm in the Youth Center, located in the school building directly opposite the outdoor basketball courts.  Look for the Youth Ministry sign.  All 6th, 7th & 8th graders are welcome!

The youth will be collecting donations and assembling care packages for the Homeless Veterans.  See the attached for the wish list items.  These items, along with their prayer chain, will be sent to the Veterans Village in San Diego CA, a shelter and rehab center for the homeless.  We will also have pizza, a t-shirt design contest and make video skits on the theme "Cool to be Catholic" to be shown on our new 60" flat screen TV.  You wont want your child to miss this!

Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

God Bless you and your family!
