Social Concerns

The Mission of the Social Concerns Committee is to create an awareness of church, social and charity issues by coordinating events involving the St. James family.  The Committee strives to maintain an open and friendly environment between the Board, faculty and parents.

Annual activities of the Social Concerns Committee involve the entire school and are as follows:

  • THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE – all collections for this drive go to the Missionary Sisters of Charity in Newark.  These donations are used in their soup kitchen and are distributed to needy families.  This year students in 8A helped coordinate the drive and deliver a truckload of food and toiletries to the Sisters in Newark. Also, our St. James’ families donated nearly $500 in supermarket gift cards from the $’s and cents program.

  • CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE – donations for the toy drive go to our sister parish, Sacred Heart Parish in New Brunswick.  This year students in 8B helped coordinate the toy drive and deliver gifts for nearly 300 families in Sacred Heart.

  • EASTER DRIVE – again donations go to our sister parish, Sacred Heart.  Donations of grocery store gift cards from our &’s and cents program and Target gift cards are collected.  Sacred Heart parish distributes the cards to needy families in their parish.

New this year was the Candy Cane Project.  Students in all grades made candy cane reindeer and sent Christmas messages to residents of Bethel Ridge and children in Sacred Heart’s parish.  Over 400 people received our students well wishes.
