On Monday, November 27th, the community of Saint James School in Basking Ridge welcomed the Most Reverend Bishop James F. Checchio, Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen. Bishop Checchio led the community in prayer and blessed the new gymnasium floor and science center recently installed at the school. Upon his arrival, the bishop was greeted by Pastor Monsignor Sylvester Cronin, Director Sister Joann Marie Aumand and Principal Sue Florendo along with the school’s students, faculty, parents and donors that made the recent renovations possible.
Referencing the letters of Saint Paul to the Corinthians, Bishop Checchio spoke of healthy competition, and how “every athlete exercises discipline in every way.” Bishop Checchio encouraged students to develop their mind, body, and spirit as they grow into adulthood. Bishop Checchio spent time greeting all of the students, including the PreKindergartners who wished to hold his crucifix. He gracefully complied with the request and then posed for a picture with the entire student body. The bishop then attended a reception attended by the Home School Association and School Advisory boards and donors to the renovation project.
