Welcome to the Saint James Technology Website

Computer classes are offered to all grades (K-8).  Lower grades (K-3) have one class per week. Upper grades meet multiple times per week (4th, 7th and 8th meet twice a week; 5th and 6th meet three times per week). Classes strengthen skills in research, writing, data collection/databases, analysis, computation, charting, presentations, publishing, typing, reporting, artistic drawing and animation.

Computer Room:

There are 30 HP laptops in the computer room (wireless); most are relatively new (2010).

There are five printers and an interactive Smart board.

A videoconference system (Polycom) was just installed, this October 2011.

24 iPads were purchased this year to be used in the classrooms.

Teachers can sign up for extra lab time whenever a computer class is not scheduled.

Computer Classes:

NJ Core Curriculum standards are used when preparing weekly lessons.

Our main goal is to train students to use a multitude of computer tools to create, analyze, solve problems, research and present results (primarily using the MS Office Suite and the Internet).

Grades 3 through 8 are also exposed to a writing software tool called, Writing Roadmap/McGraw Hill. This serves to strengthen their writing skills. This web based software electronically scores the student’s work. The Scoring system evaluates essays based on: Ideas and Content, Word Choice/Vocabulary, Fluency, Conventions/Grammar, Voice and Organization. Students can access this software at home and discuss their essays with family and friends.

Computers in the Classrooms:

Most classrooms have a PC and a laptop. There are nine Smart boards shared by the classrooms. The majority of rooms have a projector to display computer images on either a whiteboard or a Smart board. United Streaming is an online tool often used which displays a full range of educational videos, video segments and pictures to students.
