Sister Joann Teaches Leadership to the 8th Graders
Sister Joann Marie is teaching a 10 Week Leadership Course to the 8th graders with particular emphasis on how to be effective leaders now and in the future. The Leadership class is based on Steve Covey’s book “The Seven Habits of Effective Leadership.” Sister is working each week with the 8th graders to help them understand the skills so that they can begin now to practice them. So far the 8th graders were presented lessons on: importance of being responsible, making and having goals, conflict resolution skills, time quadrants, courage zones, negotiation strategies, and developing listening skills. The class is now learning about Habit 4.
The following is a list are the 7 Habits that are included in the course. Please ask your child about the Leadership Class and encourage them to begin practicing these important skills.
v Habit 1: Be Proactive
v Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
v Habit 3: Put First Things First
v Habit 4: Think Win/Win
v Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
v Habit 6: Synergize
v Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
If you have some time, go to YouTube and watch the short film by Paul Yan called “Egghunt.” This is a short clip on the theme of win-win which was shown to teach conflict resolution.
