Thank you to all of our families that lend their time, talents, and support to volunteer for our events and activities!
There are many ways to help throughout the year including, but not limited to classroom parent, in classroom activities, class trip chaperone, sports coach or team volunteer, HSA and school events, yearbook, playground duty, and many more. In order to volunteer for any student-related activities or events, please be advised that you will need to be completely "volunteer certified." Refer to the Volunteer Requirements section below.

Volunteer Requirements
If you are an adult interested in volunteering at Saint James School for any student-related activities, please thoroughly review the information below. In order to be in compliance with the Diocesan madate for all school volunteers,
(4) requirements must be fulfilled as part of a complete volunteer certification. A detailed overview document is attached here for your reference. However, all the necessary instructions, links, and paperwork follow below.1. Get Fingerprinted for Criminal History Background Check

A new fingerprint background check must be completed through the IdentoGo system. The cost is about $25.00. The IdentoGo fingerprint instructions are attached HERE. Visit the IdentoGo website or call 1-877-503-5981. Follow the instructions on the first form; screen-by-screen instructions are also included in the link above. Enter the following Service Code: “2F1J3y”. This code is for volunteers only. When prompted, enter our school’s Contributor Case Number: MET 108. This number is critical to completing the fingerprint process. Please print your confirmation letter. At your fingerprint appointment, you will also receive a payment receipt from IdentoGo. You must provide the Saint James School Background Coordinator with copies of both the email fingerprint confirmation letter and the IdentoGo payment receipt. Once fingerprinted, the criminal history approval letter from the State Police will be forwarded to the Diocese of Metuchen. It is then reviewed, tracked, and sent to Saint James School to be kept on file with the remaining clearance documents. You are not considered an active volunteer until this final clearance is received and you are notified by the school.
- The monitoring of an fingerprint background check expires every three years. Prior to a fingerprint expiration, Saint James School will contact the volunteer. If the intent is to continue volunteering, instructions will be provided to submit a "name recheck" online through the State Police. This process is completed entirely online and must be initiated by the Saint James School Background Coordinator. If an individual is not in a position to volunteer at the time of the expiration, but may plan to volunteer in the future, it is best to proceed with the online recheck process rather than let the clearance expire. Otherwise, the volunteer will have to be cleared as a brand new volunteer if he/she decides to volunteer in the future. A name recheck extends the monitoring of the clearance for another three years. The fee for the recheck process is $12 and is paid online with the application.
2. Attend a VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children for Adults training session- There is no charge for this training and you only need to attend once. Volunteers are encouraged to read ongoing Virtus bulletins that come through email after attending the class. Visit www.virtusonline.org to register for a session at a site and time which is convenient for you. You can begin your search under "Metuchen, NJ Diocese." However, it is not required that you attend this class in the Diocese of Metuchen; any location is acceptable. Once you have completed Virtus training you are required to submit a copy of your Virtus Certificate to the Saint James School Background Coordinator.
3. Complete a Diocese of Metuchen Volunteer Application-
- School volunteers are required to complete a Diocese of Metuchen Volunteer Application. The application is attached HERE. This must be submitted to the Background Coordinator.
4. Read the Code of Pastoral Conduct and Sign/Return the Code of Pastoral Conduct Acknowledgement form5. Complete, Sign, and Return the Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement- The Diocese of Metuchen now requires this document to be completed of any Saint James School active parent volunteer. It is not required for CYM basketball coaches who are not parent volunteers at Saint James School. The document is attached here.
